Program
Overview
The program would be
year round with six group workshop sessions, one every
other month beginning in August 2009. Each workshop would
run from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. and include a panel discussion,
a networking lunch session, and an introduction of a case
study assignment that would apply content presented by
the panel. Each workshop would focus on one major
division of support services - Administrative Services,
Academic Affairs, Operations, Student Affairs, University
Advancement/Community Relations.
At each workshop,
each candidate would be assigned a more senior campus
leader with whom they would meet at least once in the
month between sessions. The candidate would have the
opportunity to meet with five different leaders by the
end of the program. For the pilot year, ten candidates
would be selected and ten more senior leaders would be
recruited. The final workshop session would include a
graduation ceremony and awarding of a certificate.

Purpose
The purpose of the
Broward Leadership Program is building future leadership
for Florida Atlantic University. This will be done by
identifying current employees who have both the potential
and the aspiration to become leaders in higher education
and providing them opportunities to develop their
knowledge, skills, and contacts.

Target
Audience
The initial target
audience will be FAU Broward employees in or capable of
positions at the "Coordinator" level or above. Assistant
or Associate Directors are also appropriate. In the
future, Program Assistants and Senior and Executive
Secretaries would also be considered. While the goal is
to "grow our own", the Committee accepts that individuals
might find leadership roles elsewhere in the university,
at other institutions of higher education, or even in
organizations outside of higher education.
