- Get Anti-virus and Anti-spyware software - Viruses, worms, and trojans spread through many venues - network, e-mail, instant messaging, and hostile websites. Check with your area’s front desk for a copy of Symantec AntiVirus, available to residential students courtesy of FAU’s Student Government Association.
- Get a personal firewall -Make sure you have firewall software installed and it is active. Block all communications coming into your system that you don’t initiate.
- Keep your system locked away- Always make sure your room is locked before you leave. If you have a laptop, you may want to take it with you when you go. Don’t fall prey to theft.
- Don’t let others use your system - Letting someone else use or borrow your system can lead to trouble, especially if they know more about computing than you do!
