September 09:
Fall of 2009 marked the beginning of strong school spirit around FAU. I have never seen so many students attend football games, housing programs, or events around campus in general. The month of October brings great feelings of spirit back because it means that Homecoming is about to begin. Last year Homecoming was definitely the most fun I ever had on campus. To see so many people and organizations compete with such passion was great. The students in fraternities and sororities play a very active role during the week of events. Even though some of the events were silly, such as, the window painting competition where people were able to decorate certain windows around the student union, or the fun run, where they set up a path for the participants to run on throughout the campus. Despite the silly nature of some, in all it felt good participating in them for so many reasons:
  1. You know you’re showing school spirit
  2. You help out the university by spreading school spirit onto others and
  3. Its just so much fun!
Being proud of the school you attend is a great feeling, and being able to show it is even greater. I recommend that students on campus attend Homecoming at least once during their years here, if not ever year. It’s a great experience and really is a lot of fun. You meet new people, you get to bond with those whom you already know and sometimes you even get a bunch of free stuff! And who doesn’t want that, right? It’s events like these that take the edge off of the everyday stress we experience as college students. We all need time in between our jobs, our classes and all of the other daily tasks in our life. The events going on this year are the FUN RUN, WINDOW PAINTING, PARADE, BONFIRE, FOOTBALL GAME, and the DANCE. I hope everyone comes out and participates in this year’s Homecoming and make it the best on we've had thus far!!! Go OWLS!

August 09:
The Pre-health and science LLC’s have definitely impressed me. Ever since their first day living on campus, they have been respectful and friendly with each other. They have adapted to the “college lifestyle” very quickly. I have enjoyed seeing them work hard every day. There isn’t one day that I walk by the study lounge and not see a group of them studying for a certain class. They all seem to be excited about their courses. They have commented to me that all of their courses are “fine, except for chemistry”, which I don’t find surprising. Chemistry was definitely my hardest class to get use to. The instructor that I had (which happens to be theirs also), is a very good instructor. She sets the bar really high for his students, and this takes some getting used to. In high school, your teachers were there to help you out of a “rut”; however, college is different. Procrastination and excuses are unacceptable. My biggest advice to them thus far has been to make their mark here at FAU. Standing out is the most important goal that a science or pre-med major should have. Grades in our society, nowadays at least, just aren’t enough. That is why I’ve told them to get involved on campus and they seem to have listened. One of my residents, Patrick Callahan, has already gotten the title of hall representative for the entire North tower. Thinking about this reminds me of my first few weeks as a freshman in college…All I ever worried about were exams, homework problems, and understanding the instructors who kept me from focusing in class. I never attended any events and didn’t get involved until my second semester at FAU. The third floor residents, through their Living Learning Community, definitely have an advantage. Their bond with each other and their enthusiasm towards succeeding will get them very far and I cannot wait to see them grow throughout this semester.

Summer 09:
During the 2009 summer semester I took a class in summer A and have been spending the rest of the summer trying to catch up with my family and old friends. I’ve also been volunteering at orientation for the Freshman learning community and working on a presentation that deals with classroom etiquette which I will be doing at the start of the fall semester. I haven’t done much traveling except for visiting the keys here and there ?.
