Favorite Memory at FAU: I would have to say my favorite memory at Florida Atlantic University is when my friends and I painted our bodies for one of our home football games to read OWLS! one letter per person. ( That’s me on the right as the S is OWLS!) We ended up on the front of the school's newspaper, the Navigator.

October 09:
I would like to talk about the possibilities and career choices that Florida Atlantic University has to offer. I worked with the career resources center within the Desantis Pavilion last year to help obtain an internship for the summer of 2009. After weighing my options I ended up doing an internship with The News-Press which is a newspaper company. Even though my major does not have a lot to do with the news industry or media, I took the internship because it was in the Marketing/Advertising department. Knowing that I would not be able to transfer a lot of the skills that I learned about the newspaper industry I knew that the business aspect of the paper industry would serve me well. So I took the position and worked in the department doing various jobs from working on presentations to major prospective clients, to database management. The database management dealt with about 10,000 contacts with information that was completely unorganized, and it was my job to take the information and organize it nice and neat in an excel document. The skills and experiences that I learned during my time at The News-press are extremely valuable to me and my future.
Having completed an internship and being able to use my boss as a reference not only shows my future employers what I am capable of but it also is a great start to assembling a resume that will sell me to the best of its ability which is extremely important especially in an economy like todays.

September 09:
It is now October and we have been through 6 weeks of classes. Keeping up with schoolwork is becoming a challenge. With the constant flow of tests and midterms it seems like I am never leaving the library any more. It is no surprise that the farther along you are in college the more you enjoy your classes. As I take more upper division classes I find myself truly interested in the course material and actually wanting to study. We all know college is not all work and no fun though. The football games have started up and have served to be a great entertainment. Getting to the game early to enjoy a brat on the grill is definitely a stress relief and something I truly enjoy. Watching the OWLS march down the field and score is also a good time. It is unfortunate that we have yet to win a game, but the football games are always a good time win or lose.

The programs the Resident Assistants are putting on have also been a lot of fun. This past week there was a chocolate fondue festival that Heritage Park Community Council put on. These programs are always good fun because it gives you a chance to meet new people and enjoy good food. This Wednesday we will host a program called Queso Loco, a program in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. I am having a Pumpkin carving program in October 21st. I know this will be another great program that many residents will enjoy as well as get to meet new people. I am also hosting an education program about career planning next month as well.

August 09:
After talking to many of my residents all of them have had nothing but good things to say about the Living Learning Communities and their experiences in them. Several of them told me their first impression of them was not a good one but after a day or two they came to love it. This is to be expected though because many feel that way when transitioning from high school to college. I have seen the community develop extremely well so far and I am extremely impressed with every one being so friendly with one another. There has been many occasions where residents will knock on their neighbors door just to meet them and say hello. It is very beneficial to live on a LLC floor because the community is built over night it seems. My residents all love it so far and enjoy going to class with the same people that they live with. I have already seen competition from among the floor for who can get better grades, which is great because competition fuels excellence. They will be pushing each other to get better and better grades and will help each other when studying for the same test

My transition to college was not as smooth as I had hoped. Move in day was a nightmare and saying good bye to my parents and hello to freedom was not as easy as I expected. I remember meeting my roommate for the first time and thinking this is going to be a long year. After getting to know him and other people on my floor I came to feel more comfortable with my surroundings and felt better about being in college. I remember going to my first class as well, I was so nervous I actually walked into the wrong room and sat through an entire lecture of the wrong class. It was not exactly what I was expecting from my first college lecture but it taught me an important lesson to get to class at least five minutes early. I had many ups and downs during my transition from high school to college but over all I feel that it went well and I have learned an awful lot from my experiences from freshmen year.

Summer 09:
I have been doing an internship this summer, as well as traveling. I have made it down to Cancun, Mexico, with my family. Then a couple of week after that I went to Alaska to visit my sister for 2 weeks. After that I flew to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to spend the rest of the summer with my dad. All the while I have been doing projects for my internship remotely. On top of everything I have been taking an online class at Florida Atlantic University so I can receive college credit for my internship. It has been a busy yet exciting summer, but I can't wait for Fall to start.
