How do I apply for housing?
In order to apply for housing, you must first be admitted to FAU. As soon as you’ve been notified of your acceptance, go to www.fau.edu/housing. Click on the “Apply Now” link. There, you’ll find our housing contracts. Simply print the appropriate contract, complete the form, and mail it to our office. Be sure to include a $200 security deposit. Your application cannot be processed without it.
I have the Florida Pre-Paid “Dormitory Plan.” What does this mean for me at FAU?
When you request a residence hall, you will be given a priority assignment, provided the completed Housing Contract is returned by May 1. The “Dormitory Plan” portion of the Florida Pre-Paid College Program covers only the rate for our least expensive double room in Glades Park Towers or Heritage Park Towers. You may “upgrade” your requested preferences, but are responsible for paying any additional costs. You must indicate on your Housing Contract that you are a participant in this plan to get a priority assignment. The “Dormitory Plan” will not cover the $200 deposit.
I have a disability and need to request a specific type of space. What should I do?
A limited number of spaces are designed to be accessible and can accommodate students with disabilities. The specific nature of your disability should be identified so we can work with you to meet your needs and make your assignment. You must register with the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD). Specific written documentation will be requested from you and your physician or diagnostician to support the request; that documentation will be evaluated by the OSD staff and recommendations to the Housing Office will be made regarding your needs, the appropriate modifications, and assignments. The process of review does take some time. The Housing Office is not able to honor requests for special accommodations without an evaluation from the OSD staff, and you need to complete the Housing Contract and OSD paperwork prior to June 1.
I’ve read that all accommodations are furnished. What should I bring with me when I move in?
Residents need to provide their own linens, towels, desk lamps, cleaning supplies and trash receptacles. Students may also bring televisions, stereos and computers but may want to wait until they have received their roommate/ suitemate assignments to determine their specific needs.
How do I connect local and long-distance telephone service?
Local and long distance telephone services are available through PaeTec. PaeTec sends out information to students’ home addresses during the summer months, and representatives are available when you check into your residence hall/apartment.
What can I expect from the on-campus computer network?
ResNet is the high speed computer network for the FAU residential student community. It is a shared resource, available in all on-campus housing locations. ResNet provides access to the World Wide Web, University e-mail accounts, individual student record information, as well as access to all FAU on-line and distance learning materials and information. The campus network is a shared resource and actual transmission speed from a given work station will vary depending upon network traffic load. You are provided with your own data port, and in most places within the residence halls, you will be able to access the network wirelessly.
I’ve filled out a Housing Contract, but now I need to cancel. How do I do that?
In order to cancel your Housing Contract, you must complete a cancellation form. You may cancel your contract by the established deadlines without penalty for the following reasons: • You do not enroll at FAU or withdraw from the University • You participate in an academic program that requires residency outside of a 50 mile radius of the Boca Raton campus • You are dismissed or suspended for academic reasons • You graduate and do not continue as an enrolled student in another program
You are responsible for providing evidence of one of these conditions for cancellation. The cancellation will not be effective until the information is filed with and verified by the Housing Office. Should the conditions which warranted the cancellation of the Housing Contract change during the original contract period, you will be responsible for fulfilling the Housing Contract as if it had not been cancelled. Please refer to your copy of the Housing Contract for applicable cancellation deadlines and fees. |
