Health care is one of the leading industries in the nation, and the     MBA Health Administration Program at Florida Atlantic University is committed to preparing residents of South Florida for future leadership positions in it.

The Health Administration Program at FAU has a proud tradition of educating recent high school graduates as well as mature working professionals in its day and evening undergraduate programs offered on five campuses in Broward, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie Counties.  Distinguished full-time faculty with degrees from the nation’s leading universities are complemented by part-time faculty who bring their practical experience in the health administration field to the classroom.

The Health Administration Program at Florida Atlantic University was established as an undergraduate program in 1975 and has produced health care leaders now serving throughout the state of Florida and across the nation. 

Graduate students matriculating in the Master of Business Administration Program obtain a MBA degree with a concentration in health administration by taking four electives in the Health Administration Track.

A Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management is also available for experienced healthcare professionals or those with a master’s degree in a related field.  

The Health Administration Program is part of the fully accredited FAU College of Business.  As it begins its second quarter century of service to the citizens of South Florida, the future for the program and its graduates is filled with promise.  Health care in the twenty-first century will become an increasingly important part of people’s personal lives as well as of the nation’s economy, and FAU is preparing students to shape the health care system of the future.

MBA Core Curriculum ~ General Information

40-52 Credit Hr. Program*

        The MBA Program consists of foundation courses and 40 credits of graduate business study. The curriculum is divided into three parts:

  • The Foundation Component, providing training in basic business fundamentals  (12 credits) ~ required only if a student lacks the required academic background

  • The Health Admin. Concentration, encompassing highly advanced and elective graduate  business courses, special tracks, and the thesis option (12 credits)

  • The Core Component, comprising fundamental graduate business courses (28 credits)

 HSA 6107  Health Care Management I

Study of internal operations of healthcare organizations varying from hospitals to nursing homes, out-patient clinics, and assisted living facilities.  Examines issues such as board governance, physician credentialing, resource utilization, and organizational structure. 

 HSA 6108  Health Care Management II

Study of the rapidly evolving U.S. healthcare market and its impact on the structure and functions of healthcare organizations.  Examines changing patient demographics such as population aging, technological developments in such areas as pharmaceuticals, and government regulation of patient care.

HSA 6152  Health Policy

Provides an understanding of the leading health concerns of the day, including Medicare prescription drug benefit, the uninsured, managed care, and the pros and cons of universal health insurance, a market-oriented system and a government system.  Analytic frameworks for understanding the policy and politics of health care are the backbone for understanding current health care issues.

                                       HSA 6246  Health Law                               

A comprehensive examination of health law issues affecting healthcare providers.  Reviews case law decisions, statutes, and regulations involving such issues as patient care liability, malpractice, workman’s compensation, and legal responsibilities of health professionals.
