Camps are currently on hiatus.
FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute is offering single-day camp experiences for students interested in outdoor fun, sun, and discovery. Perfect for your budding marine biologist or ocean animal lover, each experience focuses on a different area of exploration! Harbor Branch biologists, researchers and educators will give Explorers an up-close and hands-on experience with Ocean Science for a Better World.
Our camps include:
Marine Life, Big and Small: Explorers will be introduced to a diverse range of marine animals, from microscopic plankton to humpback whales, and the habitats in which they live. Campers will assist researchers in a “mock” dolphin rescue, participate in an interactive food web activity, and use microscopes to look at the littlest members of the food chain.
Lagoon Trekkers: Explorers will experience the natural beauty of the Indian River Lagoon through a variety of fun activities including specimen collection, seining, hiking, eco-crafts, and much more! Harbor Branch environmental educators will be on-hand to assist campers in identifying the lagoon critters they find.
Deep Sea Discovery: Explorers get an insider’s look at the deep sea exploration being done at Harbor Branch and help assemble a real Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) with assistance from Harbor Branch researchers. After the ROV is ready, Explorers get to test their group’s ROV in the lagoon!
With four counselors and just twenty campers per session, participants can explore the mangrove marshes and seagrass beds of the Indian River Lagoon in a safe and personal environment. Weather permitting, we guarantee that campers have the opportunity to experience the beauty of the Indian River Lagoon through interactive and educational water components. Our counselors are lifeguard and first aid certified, to ensure that participants have the safest and most enjoyable experience possible.
