Ocean Science For A Better World

It is the vision that drives more than 140 Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute scientists, engineers and support staff. We tackle that mission through ocean-related innovation, exploration, research, education and conservation.

In the deep sea, our scientists study and unravel the oceans’ mysteries and bring back specimens that are evaluated for their disease-fighting potential.

Closer to land, we study deep and shallow coral reefs, seagrasses, marine mammals and how these communities are affected by growing human populations.

On land, our aquaculture group works on new ways to farm seafood and our engineers support research and exploration missions with custom-designed tools and instruments.

In the classroom, we offer specialized graduate and undergraduate programs in marine science and marine biotechnology that give students a chance to augment textbook learning with the resources of a leading oceanographic institute.

We invite you to jump in and see what Ocean Science for a Better World means at Harbor Branch:

Innovation

Harbor Branch engineers create the tools and instruments that scientists and industry need to carry out innovative work in the oceans.
