Research Interests
Dr. Scarpa's primary research area is bivalve aquaculture in the fields of culture and breeding. His research has included fish culture/nutrition, shrimp culture in low salinities, and developing culture technology for aquatic species that contain pharmaceutical compounds. Current projects include monitoring oyster beds for restoration in the Lake Worth Lagoon, studying the sunray venus clam as a new species for Florida aquaculturists, examining the genetic potential of southern hard clams for Florida clam culturists, and producing oysters for population genetic studies in the Indian River Lagoon system.
