Another recent initiative has been to create a “Peak library”. Extracts of marine organisms are typically made up of complex mixtures of natural products.  To provide samples that are useful in high throughput screening, the CMBBR has begun to prepare a library of enriched and pure materials for screening which is designated as a “Peak library”. The peak library consists of fractions that are prepared through medium pressure liquid chromatography using an ISCO Combiflash Companion. Just one example of the power of screening the peak libraries is the identification of a novel chemical entity with utility against the malaria parasite within one week of the first test of the material. This library of materials is available for screening through collaborative partnerships.
