Why should you support Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute?

Private gifts are essential for the continued growth and development of Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute.

The Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute Foundation, Inc. (HBOIF), a 501(c)3 organization, supports marine science and engineering research and education by funding HBOI-FAU efforts to advance understanding of oceans and coastal areas through exploration and scientific inquiry. We are a Direct-Support Organization (DSO) of Florida Atlantic University benefiting Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. The DSO designation allows HBOI Foundation to affiliate with FAU Foundation, Inc. through which all private support dollars are administered. This arrangement allows the HBOI Foundation to benefit from the business operations of a larger foundation. When you make your gift online via the FAU Foundation website 100% of your gift is designated for the work at harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. For more information about the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute Foundation contact: Executive Director Janet Alford jmalford@hboifoundation.org 772.466.9876 x224.

When you make a gift to Harbor Branch you have flexibility in determining how the funds will be used, as well as many options for making your gift.

Unrestricted gifts are the most valuable because they allow Harbor Branch to allocate funds wherever the need is greatest, and to take advantage of unique opportunities as they arise. These are the venture funds of research that enable new discoveries, and as such are crucial to expanding global marine science leadership. Your unrestricted contribution will be used to support costs associated with research, equipment, innovations, facilities, and much more.

Restricted gifts allow you to designate your gift to a specific project, program or a priority area at Harbor Branch. When you make a designated gift to Harbor Branch you enjoy the satisfaction of knowing you are supporting a program or project that is personally meaningful to you.

A named endowment is one example of using a restricted gift to create a perpetual fund to support research, specific programs, scholarships and many other areas including unrestricted purposes.

To get more information on making a fund designation or opportunities for naming contact: Director of Development and Outreach Melodye Hendrix hendrixm@fau.edu 772.242.2445.  Harbor Branch has designated fund-raising projects, trusts, scholarships, grants, events and membership programs to ensure all friends of Harbor Branch may participate. The HBOI Development Office facilitates annual giving, endowments, major gifts, planned gifts, gifts-in-kind and other programs in support of Harbor Branch. Gifts may be given in the form of cash, securities, real estate, tangible property, gifts-in-kind and planned giving such as bequests, annuities, trusts and life insurance.
