Private gifts are essential for the continued growth and development of Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. Gifts in support of Harbor Branch come from individuals, corporations, foundations and federal, state and local entities.
The FAU Foundation, Inc. a 501 c 3 organization was established to support the educational mission of Florida Atlantic University. Harbor Branch as a part of the FAU family benefits from this important financial resource. The FAU Foundation is organized and operates exclusively to receive, hold, invest, and administer private support and to make expenditures to or for the benefit of Florida Atlantic University. The mission of the FAU Foundation is to encourage, promote, and provide funds and other resources for the benefit of the University in furtherance of its missions and purposes and to secure the application of these funds in the manner best adapted to the needs of the University.
When you make a gift to Harbor Branch you have tremendous flexibility in determining how the funds will be used, as well as many options for making your gift.
Unrestricted gifts are the most valuable because they allow Harbor Branch to allocate funds wherever the need is greatest, and to take advantage of unique opportunities as they arise. Your unrestricted contribution will be used to support costs associated with research, equipment, innovations, facilities, and much more.
Restricted gifts allow you to designate your gift to a specific project, program or a priority area at Harbor Branch. When you make a designated gift to Harbor Branch you enjoy the satisfaction of knowing you are supporting a program or project that is personally meaningful to you.
A named endowment is one example of using a restricted gift to create a perpetual fund to support research, specific programs, scholarships and many other areas including unrestricted purposes. The State of Florida has a matching gift program for gifts of $100,000 or more, providing donors with the opportunity to increase their gifts substantially. Harbor Branch has designated fund-raising projects, trusts, scholarships, grants, events and membership programs to ensure all friends of Harbor Branch may participate. The HBOI Development Office facilitates annual giving, endowments, major gifts, planned gifts, gifts-in-kind and other programs in support of Harbor Branch. Gifts may be given in the form of cash, securities, real estate, tangible property, gifts-in-kind and planned giving such as bequests, annuities, trusts and life insurance.

Checks are made payable to Harbor Branch — FAUF Inc., and charges to Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted.
On-line Giving
Gift of Appreciated Property
Stocks, bonds, mutual funds, property, etc. can all be accepted as gifts in support of Harbor Branch.
The Associates Membership Program
The Associates Program is an annual membership drive in support of Harbor Branch. Members have access to unique educational programs connecting to Harbor Branch scientists and projects. Associates get special access to a film series, field trips, mailing and lots of special programs. A portion of the membership fee is tax deductible.
Proceeds are used to support Harbor Branch scientists and engineers in the study of oceans, estuaries, coastal regions and the plants and animals that inhabit these areas; and for the education of the scientific engineering and lay communities to further their knowledge and appreciation of the marine environment.

Planned or deferred giving offers a variety of gift options and represents an area of charitable giving important to the future of FAU.

Gift-In-Kind
Donated services or items that would normally be purchased by Harbor Branch are accepted on a limited basis. All gifts-in-kind must be pre-approved by the Executive Director of Harbor Branch (donated services are not tax deductible per IRS rules.)
Matching Gifts
You can double,sometimes triple your gift to Harbor Branch if your employer has a matching gift program. Inquire at your Human Resource department and submit your company's matching gift form with your gift.

Payroll Deduction
Florida Atlantic University employees have the option to make their Harbor Branch contributions through the University Payroll Deduction program. You can make your contribution in equal monthly installments, paid right from your bi-weekly paycheck. If you are a member of the Florida Atlantic University faculty or staff and would like to enroll in the University Payroll Deduction program, complete a payroll deduction form.
