Office of Students with Disabilities(OSD)
Diversity Student Services works in junction with the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) located on the Boca Raton Campus.  The mission of the OSD is to support students with disabilities in their pursuit of equity and excellence in education.  The OSD works with faculty and staff to ensure that reasonable accommodations are made to allow this population of students an equal opportunity in the classroom and to have access to all areas around campus. The OSd fosters students self-advocacy and the development of compensatory skills that support independent learning.

Numerous adaptive technology aids and human support services are available to help meet the needs of students with varying disabilities, including computers with screen readers and speech recognition systems, stand-alone readers, magnification devices, tape recorders, Braille writers, wheelchair-accessible desks, tactile aids and FM systems.

The support services include assistive technology training, note-taking services, sign language interpreting, adaptive testing accommodations and learning strategy tutoring.  Self-identification and registration with the OSD is the student's decision and is not mandatory.  However, the student must do so in order to receive authorized academic accommodations.  Official documentation of the disability from a qualified professional is necessary in order to complete the process.

This enables the OSD to provide the appropriate, reasonable accommodations necessary to ensure access to the student's educational program.  All disability-related records are kept confidential and are not released without the student's written permission.

Students who have a disability that prevents them from meeting foreign language or graduation requirements may request a substitution of the course requirement in question. Granting course substitutions will depend on the nature and extent of the disability and its impact on the student’s ability to successfully meet the requirements.  Requests for course substitutions that would require a significant modification of the program, those required for certification or licensure, or those that would be inconsistent with the student's academic program or objectives may be denied.  Students should contact the OSD for assistance in following the appropriate procedures.
