Office of the
Registrar
-
Academic Problem:If you need advice on
what courses to take, talk with your academic advisor. If
you are experiencing difficulty with a specific course,
see your professor. Don't be afraid to talk with the
professor. If, for any reason, the professor is
unavailable, go to the department chair or the college
dean, in that order.
-
Drop and Withdrawal:If you decide that
it will not be possible for you to attend any classes
after having completed registration, you may withdraw
from all of your courses by dropping the courses via Self
Service on MY FAU(web) through the eighth week of classes
or by filling out a registration Drop/Add form. You must
complete all items on the form and submit it to the
Registrar's Office on or before the deadlines published
in the University Catalog.
-
Forgiveness Policy:The University
Forgiveness Policy permits an undergraduate student to
repeat any undergraduate FAU course in which a grade has
been earned and allow the last grade to count in the
grade point average. This policy may only be applied
twice during a student's study at the University and must
be requested by the student for each course repeated.
Forgiveness Policy Cards are available at
http://www.fau.edu/registrar/forms.php
or in the Registrar's Office.
-
Repeat Course Surcharge: In accordance
with Florida State Statute 240.124, any student who
registers for the same FAU undergraduate course more than
two times beginning in fall 1997 or later will be charged
a Repeat Course Surcharge. An undergraduate level course
is numbered at the 1000, 2000, 3000 or 4000 level. All
courses that are fee liable will be counted as a
registration. The amount of the charge will be determined
by the Board of Education each academic year.
-
Transcripts: Unofficial copies of the
student’s transcript are available on the web at MY
FAU under Student Self Service. Official
transcripts may be ordered on the web in Student Self
Service or you may request one in writing (preferably on
the Official Transcript Request form) and may be picked
up by the student or mailed by the University. There is a
$10.00 fee for each official transcript. Official
Transcript Request forms are also available at
http://www.fau.edu/registrar
-
Grades: Grades are available in Self
Service in MYFAU. The dates that grades will be available
each semester are at
www.fau.edu/academic/registrar
(click on "Grades"). Students will be informed by mail if
grades earned result in an academic action (i.e.,
probation, suspension or dismissal).
-
Changing Your Undergraduate Major: In
the event that the student decides to change his or her
major while at FAU, official notification is required. If
changing to another major within the same college, the
dean's office should have an internal form that will have
to be completed. The form will then be sent to the
Registrar’s Office.
-
Graduation: In order to graduate from
FAU, the student not only has to meet all University
degree requirements and all college requirements, but
must also give notification of the intent to graduate.
This is accomplished by completing an Application for
Degree, which is available at
www.fau.edu/registrar/forms.php
or by picking up an Application for Degree form in
the Registrar's Office or from your college advisor and
returning it to the Registrar's Office on or before the
deadlines published in the University Catalog, Academic
Calendar or at
www.fau.edu/registrar/gradinfo.php
.
-
Change of Address:The Registrar's Office
maintains a record of your latest address that is
utilized by many other offices in the University. To
enable the University to contact you, it is essential
that you keep your address up to date by changing it in
Self Service at MYFAU. Students living in the
residence halls will automatically have their campus
addresses recorded, and mail during the term will be sent
to that address.

Ombudsman
-
The Office of the Ombudsman was
established by the President to help students solve
problems they encounter in their dealings with the
University. As an independent agent of the University,
the Ombudsman has the authority to work outside normal
channels and to access information from, and raise
questions with, any office in the institution.
-
However, the Ombudsman does not
order change by the direct imposition of authority and
does not set aside or supersede University rules and
regulations. Rather, knowledge of the facts of a
situation, along with reason, persuasion and familiarity
with the system, have generally proven adequate to
achieve the fairest outcomes. When the outcome of a case
is contrary to that sought by the student, a complete
explanation as to why a different result was called for
is always given.
-
Your visit to the Ombudsman is
completely confidential. If your name must be used to
gain information essential to resolving the case, such
action will be taken only with your expressed approval.
An appointment with the Ombudsman can be made by calling
(561) 297-3693.
