Assistantship Information
Graduate Assistantships are one way for full-time graduate students to finance their educational studies at Florida Atlantic University. The university offers assistantships to full-time, degree seeking students as follows:
- General Assistantship (GA): Students perform administrative and/or clerical duties on campus.
- Graduate Teaching Assistantship (TA): Working under faculty supervision, students assist professors in the administration and delivery of courses. Depending on the position, GTAs might teach, assist with grading papers, or monitor a lab.
- Graduate Research Assistantship (RA): Students perform research under the guidance of a department or a member of the faculty.
The process of obtaining an assistantship is competitive. Students interested in applying for a Teaching Assistantship or a Research Assistantship should contact their departments directly. Offices and/or departments that typically offer General Assistantships are listed here. Some General Assistantship opportunities are posted on the Graduate College's Facebook Page and on the Human Resources Employment Opportunities page.
Full-time enrollment for graduate students requires a student to be enrolled in at least nine credit hours during the fall and spring semester and six credit hours during the summer semester. Compensation for assistantships includes a partial or full tuition waiver and a stipend. Students on assistantships are limited to working a maximum of 20 hours each week.
