ADVISING
The orientation is designed to provide you with general information about the university and its services to students. Academic advising takes place within your academic department rather than during the orientation session. We recommend that students contact their departments individually in order to make arrangements for advising.
ACADEMIC CATALOG
Students interested in viewing the FAU academic catalog should go to the following website: http://www.fau.edu/academic/registrar/univcatalog/welcome.htm. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to access the electronic catalog.
DIRECTIONS TO THE BOCA RATON CAMPUS / MAP
All Graduate College orientation sessions will take place on the Boca Raton campus. (If other FAU campuses are hosting graduate orientation activities, students will be notified of these events separately.)
- Take I-95 to Boca Raton (Glades Road exit).
- Head east on Glades Road toward the university.
- Make a LEFT at the first entrance to the university. (This is at a traffic light at NW 10th Avenue)
- As you proceed into the university, you will pass an Information booth immediately on your right. You will then notice the Student Support Services building (SU 80), also on the right. Park in the first parking lot on the right (LOT 16), which provides parking for both the Student Support Services Building and the Student Union.
- Please refer to your orientation invitation email for specific information about your building and room number.
The summer orientation will take place in the Student Support Services Building (SU-80). The Graduate College is also located in the Student Support Services Building.
Next to the Student Support Services Building is the Student Union. On the map, it is listed as Student Union UN-31. Both the fall and spring orientations are held in this building.
A map of the campus is located at http://uavp.fau.edu/Flashmap/FAUMap.html. On the map, click on the down arrow to select the building you plan to visit.
PARKING
Since each orientation takes place after 5:00 p.m., it is not necessary to have a parking permit to park on campus for the event. Twenty-four hours after you have registered for classes, you will be able to purchase your parking permit to park on campus. More information about parking on campus is located at http://www.fau.edu/parking/.
BOOKSTORE
Students may purchase all required books and supplies for their classes from the FAU bookstore. For your convenience, there are campus bookstores on the Boca Raton, Davie, Fort Lauderdale, Jupiter, and Treasure Coast campuses. More information about the FAU bookstore is located at http://www.fau.edu/business-services/bookstores.php.
OWL CARD / FAU STUDENT ID CARD
All students are required to obtain the OWL Card. Among other things, this multipurpose card serves as the primary identification card for FAU students. The card is also used as the FAU library card. Other possible uses include as a meal card, FAU debit card and a BankAtlantic ATM card. More information about the card is located at the OWL card website at http://www.fau.edu/business-services/owl_card.php.
RSVP
For planning purposes, we ask that you RSVP to indicate your participation in the orientation session. Each session is limited to admitted students and immediate family members.
