Signature Page(s)

Your signature pages must be approved by the Graduate College at least 2 weeks prior to your defense. If students obtain signatures for a signature page that has not been approved by the Graduate College, they will be obligated to re-do their signature page and obtain signatures again. Send your signature page early! Students have unlimited formatting checks for their signature page.

Deadline to submit the signature page for doctoral and master's students: 2 weeks prior to your defense.

Complimentary Formatting Reviews

Send your draft to us early! These are reviews will be conducted on a first-come-first-serve basis and have a turn-around time of 2-3 weeks.

The Graduate College provides up to two complimentary reviews, and it is highly recommend that you take advantage of this service. Submitting early for a formatting check can greatly reduce the corrections required for your final manuscript.

  • Prior to submitting for a formatting check, format your manuscript in accordance with FAU’s Graduate Thesis and Dissertation Guidelines (click here).
  • Email the Word document to GraduateWriting@fau.edu.
  • NOTE: The signature page format must be approved by the Graduate College prior to obtaining your committee's signatures.

Transmittal Memo

To ensure that your thesis or dissertation is free of plagiarism, you and your committee members must complete and sign the Transmittal Memo. The memo will be kept on record as certification that your thesis or dissertation contains original content.

Final Draft

The Graduate College Dean's signature is required for Graduate College approval. Before you can get approval, you must send us your FINAL DRAFT for a final (and mandatory) formatting check. After you have made the appropriate corrections, you will receive a scanned signature page that contains the Graduate College's approval.

Electronic Thesis or Dissertation (ETD)

Once you have received your scanned signature page, you should insert your scanned signature page into the final version of your thesis or dissertation using Adobe Acrobat Pro. If you do not have this software, you can check with your department or purchase it. Once you have added your scanned signature page to your thesis or dissertation, convert the document into a PDF (the PDF becomes your ETD). Click here to upload your ETD  to the FAU Library Database.
