FAU Students Photograph the World

Deadline for submission: 12:00 Noon, Friday, October 9, 2015

Photo Exhibit, Reception and Announcement of Winners:

The photo exhibit will be on display in the S.E. Wimberly Library - First Floor West in Boca Raton starting November 2, 2015.   Several prizes will be awarded based on a review by a panel of judges. The reception for the FAU university community on Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 4:00-6:00 pm in the Sean Stein Pavilion of the College of Business during International Education Week will include announcement of the winners.

Eligibility: To take part in this contest you must have recently participated in an FAU program studying abroad or a study abroad program approved by the Office of International programs (OIP) during the 2014-2015 academic year. For purposes of the Contest the academic year is Fall, Spring, or Summers 1, 2 and 3. For purposes of this competition "study abroad” may include internship or volunteer abroad opportunities that earned academic credit and were approved through the Office of International Programs (OIP). It does not include vacation travel abroad other than interim travel as part of the abroad program.

Rules of entry:

Photos must be original work; digitally altered photos will not be accepted. The photos must have been taken by the entrant during their abroad program or on travels during the program. Each entrant must complete an entry form for each photo and a signed Photo Release form. Photos submitted without a completed entry form and photo release will not be permitted to participate. Black and white photos as well as color photos are acceptable.

How to enter:

If you meet the eligibility requirements you may submit up to three photographs (one per category) by saving them on a CD and submitting them to OIP at the above address, or by email to: oipphotos@yahoo.com. Photos should be saved as a JPEG (.jpg) file at the highest resolution possible sized to 8.5”x11” print format. OIP will not reformat photos submitted. Photos with low resolution will not be printed due to print quality.

The three categories are:

STUDENTS ABROAD: Photos must depict an image of students in a setting indicative of the abroad location, or interacting with local populations, or aspects of the study abroad experience.

PEOPLE OF THE HOST COUNTRY: Photos should capture images of people in the host country visited.

PLACES ABROAD: Photos should be of a landmark or a landscape scene of your abroad location.

How We Judge:

All photos will be evaluated by a team of judges selected from the FAU community of faculty, staff and student leaders (OIP staff do not judge photos).  Each photo is judged on its own merit. If the number of submissions exceeds the display space in the exhibit, a subset of the judges’ panel will do a preliminary vetting to decide the semi-finalists for display and the final competition.  The full judges’ panel will review the photos on display in the exhibit to choose the award winners.  Judges decisions are final.  There may be multiple winning photos from the same photographer.  However, only one prize is awarded to each winning contestant.

Nine (9) winning entries will be selected based on the best quality photographs in the three categories.

Winners will be announced at the annual International Education Week reception on Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 4:00-6:00 pm in the Sean Stein Pavilion of the College of Business.

3 First Prizes of $100.00 (one in each category)
3 Second Prizes of $50.00 (one in each category)
3 Third Prizes of $25.00 (one in each category)
