All students who participate in an FAU-approved education abroad experience will purchase comprehensive health and travel insurance for the duration of their time abroad.  FAU coordinates this mandatory insurance through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI), which provides FAU low-cost comprehensive, international travel coverage.  Details of the current plan, as renewed in 2015, may be found in the FAU CISI Brochure.

Upon enrollment, participants are contacted directly by CISI with information on creating a student portal. Once they have created this portal, they can access their insurance card, claim forms, details on coverage, travel alerts, and other relevant materials.  Participants are also encouraged to download the CISI app, as they can access insurance information and travel alerts.

Staff and Faculty:

FAU faculty and staff approved to lead Education Abroad programs are automatically enrolled in CISI insurance.   Other FAU faculty, staff, and employees traveling abroad to attend conferences, conduct research, or participate in other university business abroad should contact the Education Abroad office to set up this coverage at minimal expense.  (Please note: Vacation travel is not covered.)

Likewise, FAU faculty may also purchase the International Teacher ID Card (ITIC) from Education Abroad for $25.   The ITIC is a useful tool which offers offers discounts for international travel and well as some emergency health insurance for professors traveling abroad for personal and professional reasons.  To purchase an ITIC, faculty should contact the Education Abroad Office.
