Fees and Costs

Study Abroad Fees

Application Fee

All students participating in an abroad program are required to pay a $100 application fee.  This fee includes the mandatory ISIC health insurance and evacuation card.

Tuition Costs

Students studying on FAU Faculty Led programs pay the cost of tuition directly to the Cashiers Office. Students must be enrolled for the minimum number of credits hours offered on the program.

FAU Program Costs

Students studying on FAU Faculty Led programs pay the required program fee to the Office of International Programs by the deadline given upon acceptance. The program fee often includes housing and housing fees, some meals, in country transportation, museum fees and excursions fees. Airfare may or may not be included depending on the program.

Students studying on FAU faculty led programs must also pay a $200 campus administrative fee.  See below for more details.

Exchange Program Costs

Students studying on FAU sponsored exchange programs pay FAU tuition directly to the Cashiers office. The additional costs of studying on an exchange are paid by the student. Students pay for their own housing, meals, transportation costs, airfare, living expenses and all incidentals.

Non-FAU Program and Affiliate Costs

Students studying on Non-FAU programs or affiliates pay tuition and programs costs directly to the program provider.

OIP Study Abroad Fees for Application Processing, Insurance, and Campus Administrative Charges

The Office of International Programs (OIP) at Florida Atlantic University is charged with helping faculty, departments and colleges create and then manage study abroad programs for FAU students.  OIP provides a broad range of support assistance for our campus customers, including program design, advertising and marketing, recruitment, student advising, financial planning, fee collection, account management, vendor payments, and grade recording and management.   OIP also assists incoming international students on formal student exchanges, and is increasing its efforts to raise money for student study abroad scholarships.  All students going on programs managed by OIP are eligible for OIP study abroad scholarships (active when adequate funds are available for this purpose).

For these services OIP charges a modest application processing fee that includes mandatory health and evacuation insurance for students through the ISIC card.  The fee for this in 2006-2007 was $100.   In addition, starting in AY 2006-2007 OIP study abroad activities were classified as FAU auxiliary financial activities and thus subject to the mandatory campus auxilliary surcharge of 6.54%.   To raise the added 6.54% in receipts that must be paid to the campus, OIP initiated a new administrative fee of $200 per student.  The administrative fee is being kept as low as possible for the bulk of the SAP student participants and will be reviewed each year.  The fee will be adjusted as needed for 2007 and beyond, to simultaneously meet the needs of our students while producing a financially solvent set of programs for the campus Controllers’ Office.
