Expanding Asian Studies at Florida Atlantic University

FAU has received a new grant from the U.S. Department of Education to build up Asian Studies at FAU for two years, 2010-2012.  Asian Studies at FAU includes East Asia, South Asia and West Asia, or the Middle East.   New grant funds effective July 1, 2010 will be used to add to the curricular offerings in Asian Studies, add more Chinese language course and begin an Arabic language program, and develop faculty expertise in Asian Studies.   The grant will also support a faculty seminar each year with visiting speakers, add materials on Asian Studies to the FAU library, and host an annual teacher workshop each spring for local Grades 9-12 secondary school teachers.   The project is led by Professor Michael Horswell (Languages, Linguistics and Comparative Literature), Prof. Ken Holloway (History and the Asian Studies Certificate Program) and Dr. Cathy Meschievitz (Office of International Programs).
