Museum Education Program
University Galleries’ Museum Education Program trains Florida Atlantic
University students in educational techniques related to teaching and
learning in art museum environments. We offer interactive gallery tours
to youth through partnering schools and after-school programs, as well
as to adults in the South Florida community.
Our Museum Education Program is recognized by the School District
of Palm Beach County as an approved Field Experience Provider. Each
academic year, we produce cross-disciplinary lesson plans that allow
teachers to incorporate field trips to University Galleries into their
curriculum. An example of a successful partnership is with visual arts
teacher Gwenn Seuling of Boynton Beach High School and language
arts teacher Carly Gates of Dreyfoos School of the Arts who, since
2008, have annually brought their classes together to the galleries and
produced an exhibition of student responses to the artwork they study
in our exhibitions.
Artist Mentorship Program (AMP)
Since its inception, the Museum Education Program has collaborated with and provided art
education services to children in after-school settings. Undergraduate FAU students are hired
each semester to teach visual arts classes in several regional locations. Currently, we teach
classes at the Marjorie Fisher Boys and Girls Club in West Palm Beach and the Naoma Donnelley
Haggin Boys and Girls Club in Delray Beach. A generous grant from the Community Foundation
has allowed AMP to expand to a third site, the Children’s Home Society, beginning in Spring 2016.
AMP promotes young people's creativity while encouraging artistic skills and cultural enrichment.
The students visit University Galleries and the FAU campus several times throughout the
semester to expose them to contemporary art and college life. Using arts integration philosophies
and teaching methods, AMP combines the visual arts with other disciplines such as science,
language arts, music, and math through weekly hands-on projects and dialogue.

ImageMakers Photography Exhibition
University Galleries has hosted the annual ImageMakers Photography Exhibition since 2010,
coordinated by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County and their Director of Technology
Education, Dennis Young. The children are introduced to photography and digital technology by
taking their own photographs on field trips throughout the county. The selected photos are entered
into both a regional and a national competition organized by the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
