EARLY FRESHMAN ADMISSION PROCEDURES FOR
FLORIDA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Excerpt from Florida Statutes, Postsecondary Education--Articulated Acceleration:
Early admission shall be a form of dual enrollment through which eligible secondary students enroll in a postsecondary institution on a full-time basis in courses that are creditable toward the high school diploma and the associate or baccalaureate degree. Students enrolled pursuant to this subsection shall be exempt from the payment of registration, tuition, and laboratory fees.
Students who have completed their junior year of high school may be considered for Early Admission. If accepted for Early Admission, the student enters FAU as a freshman instead of attending high school for the senior year and will spend the Fall and Spring semesters full time at FAU. Qualifications for consideration for Early Admission are:
- A 3.50 GPA (as calculated by FAU),
- SAT-I score of 1200 or an ACT score of 27,
- Written permission from the high school principal to allow FAU courses to satisfy any remaining requirements toward high school graduation.
- Letters of recommendation from guidance counselor and teacher(s) attesting to the student's maturity and readiness to meet the academic and personal challenges posed by early entry into higher education.
Early Admission students must earn at least a 2.0 or higher FAU semester GPA at the end of their Fall semester to continue in the program for Spring semester.
At the end of the freshman year, successful Early Admission students will have completed both their freshman year of college and senior year of high school graduation requirements.
Advisement/registration for early admission students, as for all entering freshmen, is handled by the Freshman Academic Advising Services office. Early admission students will receive information on advisement/registration in early summer from the Freshman Academic Advising Services office.
