Spencer Foundation Dissertation Fellowships (website, application)

Through the Dissertation Fellowship Program, the Spencer Foundation aims to build capacity in the education research community by supporting a new generation of scholars from a wide range of fields. Please refer to the website or .pdf application link for more details.

FBI - Common Knowledge Scholarship   (website, register)

This scholarship is based on what you know.  Four (4) $1000 first place cash scholarships will be awarded every week during the month of December. No essays, no minimum GPA, or financial background information  is required.  Register at the link located above to find out more information.

Walmart Foundation Scholarship (website)

Students across the country benefit significantly from Wal-Mart's involvement in their town and surrounding communities. We believe that one of the most important ways to assist local communities is by supporting local needs and focusing our giving to the areas that our customers feel are important. Sallie Mae Fund Scholarships (website, flyer)

Delivered through The Fund's Project Access program, these scholarships target low income and minority populations in an effort to increase access to higher education. Project Access addresses three key barriers to higher education-awareness of financial aid, academic performance and financial need. To be eligible for The Sallie Mae Fund scholarship programs, students must be accepted and enrolled at a Title IV eligible, accredited post-secondary two- or four-year college or university, vocational, or technical school in the United States or Puerto Rico and meet program-specific eligibility requirements. The Sallie Mae Fund scholarship programs include:

  • The Sallie Mae Fund "Community College Transfer Scholarship" (application) Offered in collaboration with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, this program provided scholarships to Latino students transferring from a community college to an approved, accredited higher education institution.  If you have specific questions about this program that are not answered on HSF's website, please email HSF or call 1-877-473-4636.

Imagine America - Military Award Program (MAP)   (website)

This program has been established to assist thousands of military personnel each year pursue post secondary career education at hundreds of career colleges across the nation. National Law Enforcement & Firefighters Children's Foundation   (info & app)

The National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children's Foundation Scholarship Awards are for children of law enforcement and firefighting personnel who were lost in the line of duty. These awards are designed to reward excellence, recognize accomplishments and help students by providing funding for their post secondary education at qualified institutions. Broward Shell Club Scholarship ( website )

This scholarship is available for undergraduate or graduate students majoring in the field of marine biology at local colleges or universities.  The guidelines for the award are very simple. The student's coursework should include some aspect of malacology (taxonomy, habitat studies, pollution effects, DNA analysis, etc.) and the applicant will be requested to make a presentation to the Club about their research and how the award assisted them in their goals. Stop by the Financial Aid office on the Boca campus to obtain a copy of the application.

 

Business Scholarship (more info & application)
Awarded to eligible undergraduate students who are interested in pursing bachelor level degrees related to business management, information systems management, marketing, finance, accounting, human resource management, and entrepreneurship.  Selection is based on academic history, extracurricular activities and employment history.  Deadline to apply is April 1, 2012.  For more details, click on the link above.
                                                 

Florida Surveying & Mapping Society Scholarship ( application )
The Space Coast Chapter of FSMS is offering scholarships to students pursuing courses in Geomatics and Land Surveying. Preference is given to applicants residing in Brevard County but all Florida residents can apply.  Applicants must also maintain a 2.5 GPA overall and 3.0 GPA in Surveying Curriculum courses.  Click on the application link above for more details and application.
    
      
Federal Government Internships for Civil Engineering Students ( website )
The Indian Health Services (a federal government agency of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and the U.S. Public Health Services) is seeking civil, construction, and environmental engineering interns.  Internships generally occur during the summer months, but are also available at other times of the year.  Students must be U.S. citizens and must have completed their sophomore year at the time the internship occurs.  Students can gain valuable engineering experience while receiving competitive pay, reimbursement for travel, and other medical and government benefits.    Fore more information, click on the website link above or contact CDR Javier B. Geographical Information System (GIS) Engineering Internships
The Loxahatchee River District is seeking interns with professional attitudes and a high level of attention to detail.  Applicants must have computer skills, above average communication skills, and a general understanding of GIS software and concepts.  Interns will be required to research, create, update and analyze GIS and Engineering data, as well as compile and plot informative maps and engineering drawings.  A minimum of 3 months commitment is required.  You may start & end an internship at any time.  Flexible schedules.  For more information or if interested, please email cover letter and resume for interview to:  David Sabin ( davids@loxahatcheeriver.org) or call (561) 747-5700 ext. 119.
 
Boren Scholarships & Fellowships  ( website )
The Boren Scholarship for study abroad is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State for U.S. citizens. The scholarship is competitive and is usually given to support language acquisition pertinent to U.S. security. After the scholarship recipients graduate, they are expected to perform an internship with the US government. The scholarship usually gives preference to students who want to be abroad for one year although some have applied for only one semester. Deadline to apply for the scholarship is February 9, 2012 and the deadline to apply for the fellowships is January 31, 2012.

UNCF & AFSCME Scholarships (website)
This scholarship is offered to minority students (African Americans, Asian Pacific Islandder, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans).  Students can earn money for college.  Students must be a second-semester sophomore or junior during the application and interview process, major in American Studies, Anthropology, Economics, Ethnic Studies, History, Labor Statistics, Political Science, Psychology, Public Policy, Social Work, Sociology or Women's Studies.  Must also have a minimum of 2.5 GPA and demonstrate interest in working for social and economic justice through the labor movement.  Applicants must also have a current drivers license.  Application deadline is February 28, 2012.  For more information and details, click on the link above.

City of Greenacres Educational Scholarship  ( website )
The City of Greenacres will award five (5) $1500 scholarships with one (1) scholarship being awarded to an outstanding athlete in memory of former City Employee Denise Padgett.  Applicants must be a U.S. citizen/permanent resident AND a resident of the City of Greenacres.  Also, applicants must be a high school senior or graduate and have obtained a GED or attending college.  Applicants must also demonstrate financial need.  Deadline to apply for the scholarship is March 9, 2012 by 5:00 p.m.  For more details and the application, please click on the website link above.

City of Miami Beach Tourism & Travel Scholarship  ( website )
Annual awards for graduates of Miami Beach Senior High School who are enrolled in postsecondary studies leading to a career in the Food and Hospitality Industry. Applicants must be a U.S. resident, citizen or visiting student on a student visa, have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Consideration also given to ethnicity, financial need, community involvement and work experience in the field. Number of awards and award amount may vary. Florida Concrete & Products Association Essay Contest Scholarship  ( website , application )
This contest is available to all civil engineering and building construction students enrolled and attending colleges and universities in Florida.  All prizes are a one-time and non-recurring payout. Applicants must be a full-time student at a Florida accredited university/college as of January 2012 and must be sponsored by a university/college faculty member.  Sponsored professor must be a registered faculty member as of January 2012.  A letter of recommendation is required from the faculty member.  Essay shall have a minimum of 2500 words and a maximum of 5000 words.  All forms and documentation must be sent to FC&PA and postmarked by March 1, 2012.   Registered applicants can withdraw anytime.  Essays must be submitted and postmarked no later than midnight Friday, April 27, 2012.  Direct questions can be sent to Mr. Matt Sitter (FC&PA Director of Marketing) via phone (407) 895-9333 or email at mattsitter@fcpa.org

Florida Gubernational Fellowship Program  ( website )
The Gubernatorial Fellows Program offers an unparalleled experience in leadership and public service to Florida’s best and brightest college and university students. This nonpartisan program provides students interested in public service with the opportunity to gain experience and exposure by working in key areas of government. Fellows travel to Tallahassee for two semesters and are assigned to work in the Executive Office of the Governor or the Governor’s agencies, based on their major or area of concentration. Fellows work a minimum of 20 hours per week and are paid for their time on the job, while maintaining full-time status in their academic programs.  Fellows participate in a weekly lecture series, where they meet face-to-face with prominent leaders, including the Governor, Lt. Governor, Cabinet officers, agency heads, or other top officials. Fellows also travel throughout Florida and to Washington, D.C. to meet with local and federal government officials.  To be eligible for a Gubernatorial Fellowship, candidates should be enrolled at a Florida college or university as an upperclassman (junior or senior) or a graduate student. The program is open to students in all academic disciplines. Applicants should exhibit strong leadership, written and oral communication skills, community activism and a desire to serve the people of Florida. Approximately 12 students from around the state will be selected based on a competitive application process. Governor's Hurricane Conference Scholarship Program  ( website )
All students interested in emergency management are invited to apply for a student scholarship to attend the 26th Annual Governor's Hurricane Conference May 13-18, 2012 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Students currently enrolled in a public or private institution of higher education, at the graduate or undergraduate levels, and who have taken or are taking emergency management related courses as part of their academic program, are eligible to apply.  While a student’s major or minor concentration of study need not be “emergency management” specifically, they should demonstrate that their field of study has a direct impact to overall emergency preparedness, response, recovery and/or mitigation.  Recent Graduates: Students who complete their degree requirements no more than 6 months prior to the conference are also eligible to apply.   Florida Residents: Students who are Florida “residents for tuition purposes” (as per § 1009.21, F.S.) will be given priority. Out-of-state or online students may also be considered based upon review committee recommendation.  The deadline to apply is February 15, 2012.  For more details, click on the link above. 

Paragon Theaters Essay Contest  ( website )
All students interested in a $1000 scholarship and free movie tickets for a year at Paragon Theaters in Deerfield Beach, Florida.  Answer the essay question for your chance to win:  "Did a movie ever inspire you to do something good or change yourself for the better?  Which movie and what did you do?"
