FAU faculty and staff members are invited to submit recent activities, accolades and honors -- such as conference presentations, election to officer positions in professional organizations or the publishing of a paper, chapter or book. Dr. Eric Berlatsky, English, published Alan Moore: Conversations (University Press of Mississippi, 2012), a collection of interviews with Alan Moore, the co-creator of Watchmen, V for Vendetta, From Hell and Lost Girls.
Dr. Leonard Berry, environmental studies, has been selected as a co-author on the National Climate Assessment (NCA) with a special focus on southeastern United States and the Caribbean. The NCA takes places every four years, and this report is due to the U.S. President and Congress in 2013.
Dr. Yash Bhagwanji, early childhood education, published Early Childhood Environmental Education Rating Scale, a research-based evaluation instrument to assist programs in improving educational curriculum related to the natural world. The instrument represents an important link in the advocacy of connecting young children with nature and is published by the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE).
Dr. Frederick Bloetscher, civil, environmental and geomatics engineering, has been presented with the Robert L. Claudy award from the Manufacturers/Associates Council of the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association (FSAWWA). The committee members present the award to candidates who have shown dedication, devotion, determination and professionalism in furthering the importance of water quality in the industry, community and the FSAWWA.
Clarence Brooks, dance, has been selected as a 2012 Associate Artist at the Atlantic Center for the Arts' (ACA) February 20 - March 11, 2012 residency session with Master Artist Liz Lerman. The ACA is an artist residency program in New Smyrna Beach, Florida that brings together internationally acclaimed master artists from different disciplines with talented artists selected by the masters.
Dr. Jane Caputi, women, gender and sexuality studies, published two articles in 2011, including "Re-Creating Patriarchy: Connecting Religion and Pornography" in the Wake Forest Journal of Law & Policy and "Feeding Green Fire" in the Journal for the Study of Religion, Nature, and Culture.
Dr. Sukanya Chakrabarti, physics, published an article, "Finding Dwarf Galaxies From Their Tidal Imprints," in the November 2011 issue of The Astrophysical Journal. The article received the Editor's Choice in Science award from Science magazine. Blane de St. Croix, visual arts and history, had his work featured on the cover of Sculpture magazine in December 2011. His 80 x 7 x 2.5-foot sculpture, "Broken Landscape," (2009) is made of wood, natural materials, plastic, acrylic paint, foam, vinyl, metal dirt and sand.
Dr. Simon Glynn, philosophy, recently presented "The Rise and Fall of the Communism and of Global Capitalism, and the New Socialist World Order" at a conference hosted by the Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, as well as a paper on cognitive psychology at the Society for Phenomenology and Human Sciences' annual meeting in Philadelphia and a paper on analytic thinking at Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Scott Kelso, complex systems and brain sciences, has been elected as a 2012 Fellow of the Society of Experimental Psychologists. The Society is the oldest and most prestigious honorary society in the field of psychology. It elects only a handful of new fellows each year, and fellows are elected for life.
Dr. J. William Louda, chemistry, participated in the Fulbright Scholars Program in June 2011 as a Fulbright Specialist at the Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and specifically, with colleagues in the Marine Pollution Laboratory.
Dr. Oge Marques, engineering, recently released his textbook, Practical Image and Video Processing Using MATLAB, which is the first book to combine image and video processing with a practical MATLAB-oriented approach in order to demonstrate the most important image and video processing techniques and algorithms.
Dr. Jon Moore, biology, was featured in Our Wonderful World, a Florida-based green magazine, for his project "Saving the Prickly Apple Cactus." Dr. Moore serves as an associate professor in the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College.
Carol Prusa, visual arts and art history, was recently awarded the Herbert Ubertalli Award for Visual Arts from the Palm Beach County Cultural Council. The award is part of the 2012 Muse Awards honoring individuals and organizations for their contributions to arts and culture throughout Palm Beach County.
Dr. John Valentine, health administration, presided over the opening of the Advent Square Assisted Living facility in Boca Raton where he serves as Chairman of the Board. Dr. Valentine also serves as a professor in the College of Business. Dr. Robert Vertes, neuroscience, was awarded the Top Cited Article for 2006-2010 by Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services. The paper was titled "Interactions among the medial prefrontal cortex, hippocampus and midline thalamus in emotional and cognitive processing in the rat" and was published in Neuroscience, Volume 142, Issue 1, 2006.
