Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing Awarded Grant from Jonas Center for Nursing and Veterans Healthcare to Fund Doctoral Nursing Students

FAU’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing recently received a $10,000 grant from the Jonas Center for Nursing and Veterans Healthcare. It will help fund the scholarship of a doctoral nursing student for the 2014-2016 academic years. As a recipient of the Jonas Center grant, FAU is part of a national effort to stem the faculty shortage and prepare future nurses as America’s healthcare system continues to evolve.

“We urgently need more nursing faculty to meet the growing demand for nurses,” said Dr. Christine Williams, director of the Ph.D. in nursing program. “Graduates of the Ph.D. in nursing program become faculty leaders who educate future nurses and nurse scientists who improve nursing care through research.”

The FAU Jonas Scholars join nearly 600 future nurse educators and leaders at 110 schools supported by Jonas Center programs, the Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholars Program and Jonas Veterans Healthcare Program (JVHP). These scholarships support nurses pursuing Ph.D. and DNP programs, the terminal degrees in the field.
