Installation Art by Felicia Chizuko Carlisle Inaugurates ‘southXeast: Contemporary Southeastern Art’

The University Galleries in Florida Atlantic University’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will present a site-specific installation by Miami-based artist, Felecia Chizuko Carlisle as the first in a series of  “southXeast: Contemporary Southeastern Art” exhibitions from Saturday, Nov. 2 through Wednesday, April 30, 2014.   Carlisle’s installation will be presented in the Schmidt Center Gallery Public Space, a large hallway space in the Performing Arts Building, 777 Glades Road,  Boca Raton campus. There will be an opening lecture with the artist on Friday, Nov. 1, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the lecture hall adjacent to the exhibition space. The exhibition and the opening are free and open to the public. Born in Florida, Felecia Chizuko Carlisle graduated from the University of West Florida and then went on to attain a M.F.A. degree at San Francisco Art Institute. Carlisle’s work has been shown both nationally and internationally, including exhibitions at Miami Art Museum and University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum, as well as Sarai Media Lab in Dehli, India. In 2013, Carlisle was awarded residency at OxBow Artist Residency, an affiliate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Saugatuck, Mich., and was also a local resident at Cannonball, a leading nonprofit arts organization in Miami. Her work is also a part of the Margulies Collection. Felecia Chizuko Carlisle currently lives and works in Miami and is represented by Emerson Dorsch.
