What is LEED?
LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is redefining the way we think about the places where we live, work and learn. As an internationally recognized mark of excellence, LEED provides building owners and operators with a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.
Energy Savings
With a $500,000 grant award from the Florida Clean Energy Grant, FAU Facilities recently completed a project which replaced 2 of the largest capacity chillers on the Boca Raton campus. This project will save the University close to $300,000 per year in energy costs and will significantly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.
Recycling
Over the past few years FAU has made great strides in their recycling efforts, but there’s always room for improvement. With the addition of more solar powered trash compactors throughout campus and a noticeable increase in recycle bins throughout the buildings we have decreased the waste going to the landfills. Tree Campus USA
FAU’s Jupiter campus has the distinction of being named a Tree Campus U.S.A. by the Arbor Day Foundation and recognizes the efforts that the University continues to make in caring for the environment.
