| This page describes the department of Physical Plant's Landscape and Grounds program including maintenance and related services. | Boca Raton Campus Grounds Maintenance - Thirteen Grounds Division employees are responsible for mowing, edging, line trimming and blowing approximately 180 acres of irrigated St. Augustine lawns, providing about 36 cuts per year.
- Two Grounds Division employees are trained in and perform irrigation preventative maintenance and repairs to 82 clocks containing over 1,000 zones.
- Bed maintenance (trimming shrubs and weeding beds) is provided six times annually by a contractor, effective July 2007.
- A contractor mows and edges all of the perimeter roads on the campus.
- Under the State of Florida herbicide license of the Grounds Superintendent, one employee applies non-selective herbicides for weed control seasonally throughout the year. An outside contractor provides monthly inspections of the campus lawn for the control of pest problems.
- Through a combination of in-house staff and contractors, the Grounds Division applies fertilizer to the lawn, trees and shrubs as required annually.
- Two Grounds Division employees are certified as heavy equipment operators who utilize the Division's skid steer, tractors, bush hogs, and backhoe in earth and equipment moving, bush hogging, landscape installation and improvement, seeding, fertilization and other large projects.
Boca Raton Campus Landscape Improvements - The Grounds Division utilizes its in-house staff or contractors to upgrade and/or replace sod, shrubs and trees as needed.
Boca Raton Athletic Field Maintenance - Under the direct supervision of Grounds Division management, Sports Turf Management, a contracted service who was the winner of a public bid for this service in 2004, provides total (mowing, irrigation, fertilization, aerification, herbicide and fertilizer applications, verticutting, overseeding, infield clay work and some line painting) turf maintenance of the campus' two football fields, softball field, artificial track common areas and five soccer fields.
- The Grounds Division provides two employees who maintain the common (non-turf) lawns in the Athletic section of the campus. In addition, these employees perform baseball and football field line painting, custodial services and other general maintenance services as needed.
SMARTeam - Consisting of two Grounds Division employees, this team is responsible for tree pruning and trimming, removal of dead trees, pressure cleaning buildings and sidewalks, street sweeping, painting fire hydrants and curbs and other necessary campus-wide maintenance details. The team is sometimes supported by additional personnel from the Grounds Division.
Storm Recovery and Larger Tree Service - Periodically throughout the year, a contractor may be utilized to provide preventative maintenance or "hurricane cuts" to large ficus, banyan and oak trees.
- In the aftermath of storms, the Grounds Division is responsible for cleaning the campus of debris, using in-house staff and contractor.
Jupiter Campus Grounds Maintenance - A contracted service provides all of the necessary services for grounds upkeep at this campus.
