<p><span style="font-size:14pt"><strong><span style="color:Navy">Endangered Sea Turtles</span></strong></span></p>
Worldwide, there are only seven species of sea turtles, all are presently endangered or threatened. In Palm Beach County, Loggerhead, Green, and Leatherback turtles regularly use the local beaches during their nesting activities. Hawksbill and and Kemp's Ridley turtles are also visitors to the waters off Palm Beach County.<br /><br />When turtles are encountered by divers or snorkelers, care should be taken to avoid contact. Turtles are covered with a mucus layer which protects the animal from many bacterial and parasitic infections. If turtles are physically touched the mucus covering can be compromised opening the animal up to disease. Never attempt to ride a sea turtle. <br /><br />
