What is the Essential Personnel Program?
The University President has established a FAU Essential Personnel program. In the event of severe weather conditions or emergency situations, the University may suspend normal operations and classes. If normal activities are suspended, all employees whose positions are designated as essential must report to their campus as directed to prepare for an impending event or assess the University's operations after an event in order to protect the University’s assets.

How is a person added to the Essential Personnel list?
FAU Employees: Complete the form at www.fau.edu/facilities/ehs/Essential-Personnel-Program/ep-form.docx . Print the completed form, have it signed by the appropriate Dean/Director. Send completed form to Sharlene Sookhoo in CO 112.
Non-FAU Employees: Complete the form at www.fau.edu/facilities/ehs/Essential-Personnel-Program/ep-form-nonfau.docx . Print the completed form; have it signed by the appropriate Dean/Director. Send completed form to Sharlene Sookhoo in CO 112 .
How is a person deleted from the Essential Personnel list?
FAU Employees: Complete the form at www.fau.edu/facilities/ehs/Essential-Personnel-Program/ep-form.docx . Print the completed form, have it signed by the appropriate Dean/Director. Send completed form to Sharlene Sookhoo in CO 112.
Non-FAU Employees: Complete the form at www.fau.edu/facilities/ehs/Essential-Personnel-Program/ep-form-nonfau.docx . Print the completed form; have it signed by the appropriate Dean/Director. Send completed form to Sharlene Sookhoo in CO 112 .
How do I update the information on file?
During the year, complete the form at www.fau.edu/facilities/ehs/Essential-Personnel-Program/Online-EP-Form.php or,
FAU Employees: Complete the form at www.fau.edu/facilities/ehs/Essential-Personnel-Program/ep-form.docx . Print the completed form, have it signed by the appropriate Dean/Director.
Non-FAU Employees: Complete the form at www.fau.edu/facilities/ehs/Essential-Personnel-Program/ep-form-nonfau.docx . Print the completed form; have it signed by the appropriate Dean/Director.
Prior to new cards being issued each year, forms are sent to individuals so they may review and update their information.
In all cases forms should be sent to Sharlene Sookhoo in CO 112.
Who determines who is on the list and at what EP Category?
The Vice Presidents and Provost give the final approval to the names and EP Categories. EP Category changes must be approved by the Vice President/Provost and can be done using the forms at www.fau.edu/facilities/ehs/Essential-Personnel-Program/ep-form.docx (FAU employees) or www.fau.edu/facilities/ehs/Essential-Personnel-Program/ep-form-nonfau.docx (Non-FAU employees).
Cards are valid from June 1 through May 31. New cards are generally issued during May. Prior to new cards being issued each year, forms are sent to individuals so they may review and update their information.
Why is an Essential Personnel Card needed?
In the event of severe weather conditions or emergency situations, the University may suspend normal operations and classes. Only designated categories of essential personnel will be allowed on campus. The Essential Personnel Card is verification of this designation.
Is the EP card the same as an Owl Card?
No – the Owl Card has many uses and the Essential Personnel card is used only to gain access to campus during suspended operations. However an individual must have an Owl Card on file in the current database before an Essential Personnel card can be made.
