Jupiter Summer Science Experience: Enhance Your Education in the Life Sciences and Research

Jupiter Summer Science Experience

Be a part of the first “Jupiter Summer Science Experience” this summer. The Jupiter Life Science Experience is an opportunity for students to enhance their education in the life sciences and research in the areas of neuroscience, cell and molecular biology and biotechnology while building partnerships with local research institutions and biotechnology companies.

The program will be of advantage to any student majoring in biology or a related area and will be of particular interest to pre-professional students who are interested in pursuing a health-related career and/or graduate school.

Courses will be taught by faculty in both the Honors College and the College of Science and will be cross-listed for students in both Colleges.

Graduate students will also have the opportunity to fulfill their academic requirements. Check course listings.

As part of the Summer Science Experience, scientists from the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience (and potentially other local institutes) will give guest lectures in selected classes.

The course listings have been updated with CRN numbers to help in the registration process.

Attention ALL students interested in Practical Cell Neuroscience (PSB 4843C) will need to contact Dr. Ken Dawson-Scully (ken.dawson-scully@fau.edu) to register for this course.

Students may need to contact the instructor and request permission to take some Honors courses (that are currently not cross-listed) due to the minimum requirement of a 3.5 GPA.

Arranged tours

Students will have the opportunity to participate in arranged tours of research institutes, biotechnology companies and related local attractions of interest.

Select faculty will be recruited to offer informal seminars to interested students on current topics in science. Plans are a weekly seminar for five weeks of each six week summer term.

Campus Housing

Students will have the opportunity to live in the Jupiter residence halls during the time they are enrolled in courses. For example, if students are enrolled for the first summer session, they will be able to live in the dorms for that period. Rates will be affordable for students. Living in the campus housing will provide students with the advantages of living in close proximity to their classes, the faculty and research laboratories.

For more information or to register, contact Dr. Monica Maldonado at 561-799-8647 or mmaldonado@fau.edu, or visit www.fau.edu/registrar.
