Florida Atlantic University prides itself in being one of the most diverse universities in the nation, having admitted students from all 50 states and more than 180 countries. With students from a variety of backgrounds, FAU continues to climb the ranks in diversity.

The university ranked as one of the top 50 four-year colleges in conferring bachelor’s degrees on Hispanic graduates according to a survey conducted by Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education, a magazine published bi-weekly that informs college students, organizations and community-based corporations of matters Hispanic students encounter on college campuses.

    “Florida Atlantic University works relentlessly to serve its community by enrolling quality students of all backgrounds,” said FAU President Frank T. Brogan. “Being recognized for our diversity in academic achievement is a real honor.”

            In the 2007-08 academic year, 65,699 degrees were conferred on Hispanics in the top 100 universities that serve the Hispanic population. At FAU, 815 bachelor’s degrees were awarded to Hispanic students during the same academic year. This is a 4 percent increase over the 2006-07 academic year, when 61,374 degrees were conferred nationally on Hispanics, and 738 bachelor’s degrees were awarded by FAU.

            The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education survey indicated that FAU was ranked 26th in the nation in conferring bachelor’s degrees on Hispanics, up from 28th for the 2006-07 academic year.

“We are extremely proud of our diverse student body which allows us to be a leader in graduating Hispanic students,” said Dr. Charles Brown, vice president of Student Affairs at FAU.

As FAU continues to build on its diverse student population, the university hopes to enrich all its student’s lives as it grows and provides a wide array of opportunities for the future.
