Wednesday Lecture Series: Mark Nerenhausen
Mark Nerenhausen, President & CEO, Broward Center for the Performing Arts will discuss the role of the Creative Economy in Urban Redevelopment on November 10 th at the FAU Downtown Campus 111 East Las Olas Blvd, Room Hec1110A-B, Fort Lauderdale, FL. 33301 from 5:30pm-6:45pm.
Mr. Nerenhausen will discuss the vital role the performing arts, a rts and cultural organizations play in urban redevelopment. Central to the mission statement of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts is the commitment to be a leader in promoting artistic offerings to our increasingly diverse community with an emphasis on fostering a cooperative spirit to positively impact the local economy and community.
When the Broward Center opened its doors in 1990, Sailboat Bend was an area of slum and blight. It has since played a crucial part in spurring the revitalization of Downtown Fort Lauderdale and become a leader in the city's creative economy. Mark has been President/CEO of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts since 1998. The Broward Center is a major performing arts center with two theaters, banquet facilities and meeting rooms. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Florida International University teaching a course in Marketing the Arts and Live Music Production. Mr. Nerenhausen presently serves on several boards such as the Concert Association of Florida, Museum of Art and Artserve and is affiliated with many professional organizations, among them the American Association of Performing Arts Presenters, International Association of Performing Arts Administrators, Performing Arts Centers Consortium.
Prior to relocating to South Florida, Mark was the Executive Director at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului, Hawaii.
Mark holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Russian Studies and did Graduate Studies in Russian History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and holds a Master of Arts Degree in Arts Administration from the Graduate School of Business, University of Wisconsin-Madison.
