- July 15th, 2009: Census and Sensibility: Making your Residents Count in 2010 - a Florida Redevelopment Association, South Florida Region Meeting
With hundreds of billions of dollars at stake, accurate market information is more critical now than ever. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the decennial count directly impacts the yearly allocation of more than $200 billion in federal funding to states, cities, and municipalities. Further, retailers, financial institutions and other private sector investors rely on census data to inform investment decisions. These investments are critical to the sustainability of redevelopment areas. In cases where census estimates are inaccurate, cities and CRAs may not receive their fair share of funding, may be overlooked by investors, and may be misrepresented as stagnating or declining. Attend and find out how to break down these barriers and identify your district’s real market potential. Hear about how other communities have attracted investment in traditionally underserved and underrepresented neighborhoods. And, learn how to make sense of the census, submit a successfully Census Challenge, and make sure your residents count. Featured Guest Speaker: John Talmage, President, Social Compact Social Compact is a non-profit organization breaking down barriers to private investment in inner-city neighborhoods. By applying its cutting-edge methodology across available economic data for underserved communities, Social Compact uncovers overlooked economic indicators and provides detailed analyses that translate into new tools to support community development.
