| BOCA RATON, FL (March 1, 2006) - Angie Cruz, author of the novel “Soledad,” will read from her newest novel “Let it Rain Coffee” on Tuesday, March 14 at 7 p.m. in the Schmidt Gallery of FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. The reading is free and open to the public. Cruz’s newest novel tells the story of the Colon family, immigrants from the Dominican Republic who have come to New York in search of the American dream. It is a story of dreams and heartbreak and the pull of family and culture. “Publisher’s Weekly” said that Cruz's “unvarnished, sympathetic account of immigrant struggles makes her a writer worth watching.” As a writer and activist, Cruz has received the New York Foundation of the Arts Fellowship, the Van Leir Literary Award and the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund Award. She is also a founding member of WILL (Women in Literature and Letters). Cruz is a graduate of Binghamton University and earned her MFA from New York University. She lives in New York City. This event is sponsored by FAU’s department of English in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. For more information, call 561-297-2973. |
