BOCA RATON, FL (April 3, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University will host an Argentinean Film Festival, “Pantalla de Plata: A Retrospective of Argentinean Film” from Friday, April 7 through Sunday, April 23. In addition to film screenings, the festival will include lectures and an art exhibition. The opening weekend events will take place at FAU’s University Center on the Boca Raton campus, located at 777 Glades Road. On Friday, April 7 at 2 p.m. there will be a screening of the film “Los Rubios” (with subtitles), directed by Albertina Carri. This will be followed at 5 p.m. with a lecture entitled “Pantalla de Plata: On Argentinean Cinema,” with Christian Gundermann of Mt. Holyoke College and the opening of an art exhibition with works by Argentinean artist Pérez Celis at 7 p.m. On Saturday, April 8 from 2 to 6 p.m., there will be a screening, with intermission, of the film “La Hora de los hornos,” (no subtitles), directed by Octavio Getino and Fernando Solanas. All events on FAU’s campus are free and open to the public. From Wednesday, April 12 through Sunday, April 23, Cinema Paradiso, located at 1314 East las Olas Blvd. in Ft. Lauderdale, will be the location for 19 film screenings, the schedules for which can be found at www.cclas.fau.edu. In a special event following the Friday, April 21 screening of “La nina del Gato,” a film directed by Vignoly Barreto, there will be a conversation with lead actress Adriana Bianco, “Adreanita.” In addition, there will be concurrent film screenings at the Broward County Main Library, located at 100 South Andrews Avenue in Ft. Lauderdale, from Tuesday, April 11 through Thursday, April 13. Further information for these screenings can also be found at the website address above. Admission for screenings at Cinema Paradiso and the library is $6, FAU students, faculty, staff and alumni will be admitted for $3. The Argentinean Film festival is presented by FAU’s Caribbean and Latin American Studies Program in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. Additional sponsors include FAU’s Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, the Department of Languages and Linguistics and Comparative Literature, the Communication Department, FAU’s Spanish Program, Cinema Paradiso and the Fort Lauderdale Library.
