Florida Atlantic University started a student-operated record label (with faculty supervision) called Hoot Recordings, which (to our knowledge) is the first full service label at any university in the United States. The label is an interdisciplinary venture between the Music, Art, and Communications Departments and the College of Business. Students will have the opportunity to work in all creative and business aspects of the music industry which includes: recording, producing, videos, accounting, music publishing, artist management, A & R (choosing artists), public relations, advertising, graphic design and cover art work, sales, promotion, etc. All commercial music students work on the label.
