Delray String Quartet:
An Afternoon with Debussy and Dvorak
Delray String Quartet

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Experience an evening filled with stirring interpretations of string quartet repertoire composed by the masters - Claude Debussy and Antonin Dvorak. Claude Debussy is one of the most highly regarded composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is seen as the founder of musical impressionism. His Quartet in G minor is the only string quartet he ever wrote. Today, Debussy is remembered as a musical legend, whose uniquely structured compositions have served as a base for musicians over the past century, and will undoubtedly continue to inspire musical creation for decades to come. During the summer of 1893, Dvorak enjoyed a summer holiday in the  township of Spillville, IA. There, he wrote his most frequently performed quartet and one of the most popular of all works of this kind - The America String Quartet in F major, Op 96. Hear the beautiful string instruments and stories of geniuses from the past come to life in The Delray String Quartet's performance of these masterworks.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: The Delray String Quartet has clearly established itself as one of the cultural jewels of the South Florida region. The Quartet has been described by the press as well-balanced and elegant, adding luster to the South Florida music scene, with the players ripping into the music with savage abandon. A string quartet concert becomes a stirring experience in the hands of the Delray musicians. They recently made their New York City Debut at Bargemusic, New York floating concert hall.

Mei Mei Luo, violin - Founding member and first violinist, Mei Mei Luo is recognized as one of the finest violinists in South Florida and her solo concerts include the Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn and Bruch violin concertos.
