From Rome to Radical Islamism: 
A Historical Overview of the Middle East From the First Century to the Present
Richard Levy

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Dr. Levy will present a historical overview of the Middle East beginning with the First Century CE. Knowledge of history facilitates understanding the region's culture and conflicts. This series will use various multimedia sources and lectures to present historical material as cause and relate it to today's events as effect. The material will cover: Roman Rule, Jewish Revolts and Palestine, Islam for beginners, Pre-Islamic history and the spread of Islam, The Rise of the Ottoman Empire, Western Colonialism, World War I and the map that ruined the Middle East, Zionism and Arab Nationalism both secular and religious, Pan Arabism vs. Political Islamism, Radical Islamic Theology and Violent Jihad.

1. Pre-Islamic History and the Birth of a Religion: Islam for Beginners
2. The Last Caliphate, World War I and the Map that Ruined the Middle East
3. Zionism and Arab Nationalism: Both Secular and Religious
4. Political Islamism and Violent Jihad
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Dr. Richard Levy is a retired Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He graduated from Brooklyn College and NYU College of Dentistry.  He is a Diplomat of the Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.  Dr. Levy has always had a passion for history with a special interest in the Middle East. He is a member of the Florida Society for Middle East Studies.
