Portraits of Musical Greatness:
Biographical Features of World-Famous Opera Stars
Giuseppe Albanese
Recipient of the LLS 2000 Excellence in Teaching Award

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Once again, Maestro Albanese presents a series of educational and entertaining programs celebrating the magnificence of many musical legends from the opera stage. When possible, he will enhance the visual materials with interesting anecdotal commentary.

1. The Art of Singing: A retrospective of more than 20 artists from the first 50 years of the 20th century.
2. Caruso vs. Lanza: Two voices, two different worlds.
3. Maria Callas: La Divina, the life, times and music of the controversial Callas.
4. Franco Corelli: The prince of Italian tenors.
5. The Verdi Baritones: Was this the composer's favorite vocal division?
6. Stratasphere: The unique and dramatic career of the famous singing actress Teresa Stratas.
7. Neil Shicoff: Finding Eleazar, Shicoff and the Opera La Juive.
8. A Tribute to Roberta Peters
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Giuseppe Albanese attended the University of Vermont and received his degree in history in 1966. In 1989, after five years of intensive study, he developed a dynamic education program entitled, The Joy of Opera. For the past 25 years, he has lectured extensively on numerous operatic subjects and has produced several video documentaries.
