News of the Week
Frank Cerabino

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This eight-week series will lead attendees through a weekly roundup of the news. International, national, state and local news will be presented. Each week's topics are determined by the news stories of the day as seen through the eyes of a 30-year journalist. Lectures typically take an in-depth look at a few issues including some light-hearted topics to provide  relief from the weighty and serious news items of the day.  Examination of and conversations about the issues will be accompanied by audio-visual news clips, charts or other material.  Each session will close with a short question and answer period.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Frank Cerabino grew up on Long Island, NY, and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.  He spent five years in the Navy, reaching the rank of lieutenant and serving as a public affair officer aboard an aircraft carrier.  After leaving the Navy, he received a master's degree in journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.  He worked at the City News Bureau of Chicago before leaving the wire service to take a job with the Miami Herald in 1984.  For the next five years, Mr. Cerabino covered the police, government, legal and education beats for the Herald.  He eventually became the newspaper's federal court reporter in Miami.

Mr. Cerbino joined the Palm Beach Post in 1989.  He started writing columns for the newspaper  during the William Kennedy Smith trial.  In 1992, he became a full-time local news columnist and now writes five columns a week.  He is an adjunct professor journalism at FAU and has taught a similar series for LLS Jupiter.
