A Trip Down Operatic Memory Lane:
Classic Operas from the "Golden Age" Part I
Giuseppe Albanese
Recipient of the LLS 2000 Excellence in Teaching Award

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Opera's golden age, most enthusiasts would agree, occurred during the 1950's and 1960's. The operas from these decades are both unforgettable and endearing. Maestro Giuseppe Albanese presents two classic productions featuring some of the period's most acclaimed vocal artists. Although these productions reflect the technological limitations of the day, they nonetheless can be viewed and enjoyed with great satisfaction. Both operas were filmed in black and white and sung in the original Italian with English subtitles.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Giuseppe Albanese attended the University of Vermont and received his degree in history in 1966. In 1989, after five years of intensive study, he developed a dynamic education program entitled the Joy of Opera. For the past 20 years, he has lectured extensively on many operatic subjects and produced numerous video documentaries.
