Jazz: A Listening History
Andrew Loose

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This lecture series is geared towards the casual jazz listener. Through lecture, with a focus on listening to music, the vast and diverse history of popular jazz will be covered. Using a storytelling approach to history, the series will shed light on the individuals and groups that revolutionized jazz, as well as the relevant world history that happened at the time. Included in these stories will be pictures, videos, and listenings. The goal of this lecture series is to provide a strong understanding of where jazz music comes from and the major players involved.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Andrew Loose has been described as “a true combination of natural talent and hard work,” in the music industry, having become committed to exploring new avenues of performance and education. While studying both disciplines, he maintains an active performing and teaching lifestyle. His teaching experience extends to all levels from elementary school to college, across a wide array of topics and methods including music history, jazz, education and performance. After receiving degrees in music education and trumpet performance from Slippery Rock University, Andrew is currently pursuing a masters in Jazz Trumpet Performance at the University of Miami, where he works for the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra and performs with several university and student groups. Some of his most recent performances include performing with John Williams, Quincy Jones, and Kristen Chenoweth at The Wallis in Los Angeles, premiering the film score of The Pink Panther at The Festival of the Arts in Boca Raton and soloing with John Secada as a part of Festival Miami.
