  Physics, Assistant Professor :

The Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University seeks to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Physics position to begin in Fall 2010. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses and some labs in physics, maintain an active research program, direct honors theses, and may participate in interdisciplinary teaching and possibly collaborate with members of the Scripps Research Institute or the Max Planck Institute's new Florida branch, both located on our campus. The Honors College is a highly selective liberal arts college within a state university (see http://www.honorscollege.edu). We offer a four-year honors curriculum centered on the traditional disciplines in the liberal arts and sciences, with an emphasis on critical thinking and cross-disciplinary programs. A Ph.D. in physics is required. Composition/Rhetoric, Assistant Professor:

The Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition position to begin in August 2010. The successful candidate will normally teach five courses per year, primarily first-year composition courses typically capped at 16 and upper-division writing courses in preparation for the senior thesis; and develop and facilitate a college Writing Across the Curriculum program that operates in concert with WAC initiatives on other FAU campuses.

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. or terminal degree in composition, rhetoric, or related discipline, and relevant college teaching experience. Mathematics, Assistant Professor

The Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Mathematics beginning Fall 2010. The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced undergraduate courses, direct honors theses, and may participate in interdisciplinary teaching. Average teaching load is 5 courses per year. The Wilkes Honors College, which opened in 1999, is a liberal arts college within a state university, located in the coastal town of Jupiter, Florida. Its four-year curriculum is centered on the traditional disciplines in the liberal arts and sciences, with an emphasis on critical thinking, independent study, community-based internships, and cross-disciplinary programs. The successful candidate will be one of 36 enthusiastic faculty members (3 in Math) with broad interdisciplinary interests. See http://www.honorscollege.edu.
Areas of specialty are open. The committee will view favorably experience with computational tools such as Matlab and Maple, mathematical modeling, discrete mathematics, statistics, or other areas that interface with environmental, biological, or social sciences. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Mathematics or Statistics, evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, and potential for quality scholarship.
