INITIAL AWARDS

General Honors College Scholarships

The Office of Admissions makes the initial awards of the Honors College scholarships to incoming students. No special application is required and each applicant to the Honors College is automatically considered. These awards generally range from $2000 to $5000 per year for residential students. $1000 of the award is to subsidize on-campus housing costs and is not available to students who are not living on campus; the rest is based on merit. The size of the award is determined by GPA, standardized test scores, strength of the curriculum, writing ability, letters of evaluation, and other factors as appropriate. These scholarships are renewable for the period stated in the original award letter. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 24 credit hours of Honors College courses throughout the Fall and Spring semesters of an academic year to receive their award. Students who take a non-Honors College course as part of their 24 credit minimum must have the permission of their advisor, who must affirm that the course will fulfill degree requirements, and the course must be unavailable at the Honors College. Students must comply with the College policy on taking non-Honors college courses. Students in their final semester who are applying for graduation and registered for thesis but are taking fewer than 12 credits may receive their scholarship.

National Merit, National Hispanic, and National Achievement Scholarships

Those students who receive Finalist status in each of these competitions are each awarded a merit-based scholarship of $7500 per year. These scholarships are awarded for one year and are renewable.

International Baccalaureate Scholarships

Up to seven scholarships of $5000 each are awarded each year to incoming freshman students with the IB diploma. These scholarships are awarded for one year and are renewable.

Leadership Scholarships

Up to five scholarships of $5000 each are awarded each year to incoming freshmen students with strong leadership experience. These scholarships are awarded for one year and are renewable.

Henry Morrison Flagler Scholarships

Five awards are made each year to incoming freshman students who are Florida residents. The awards include tuition not covered by Bright Futures, room and board, as well as four summer enrichment programs. Nomination and a special essay are required. The awards are renewable. Flagler scholars should complete a FAFSA. More info.

RENEWAL OF AWARDS

Honors College scholarships are renewed at the original amount if the student earns a minimum GPA of 3.00. Otherwise, the scholarship committee will meet each spring after grades are posted and make a determination. Options include renewal at the original amount, decrease of the original amount, and a suspension of the award. The scholarship committee consists of the Director of Honors College Admissions, the Associate Dean, and the Dean.

Students who leave the Honors college temporarily and then return must fill out a Reinstatement of Scholarship form, available online, in order to receive their scholarship upon their return.

EXCEPTIONS TO SCHOLARSHIP POLICY : The scholarship committee determines any exceptions to existing policy.
