Miguel Ángel Vázquez

Dr. Vázquez started studying Aljamiado Literature (the clandestine literature of the last Muslims in Spain) at the University of Puerto Rico where he finished a Bachelor’s Degree under the supervision of the renowned Hispano-Arabist, Luce López-Baralt. He continued his graduate studies at Indiana University where he received a Master’s Degree in Spanish (1994), a second Master’s Degree in Arabic Literature (1998) and a PhD in Spanish Literature (2001). He is currently an Associate Professor at Florida Atlantic University’s Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College where he has been teaching language (Spanish and Arabic) and literature classes since 2001. He is the author of several articles on Aljamiado Literature as well as comparative studies on Spanish and Arabic literature. In 2007 he published his first book Desde la penumbra de la fosa, on the conceptualization of death on Aljamiado Literature. He was recently awarded a prestigious National Endowment for the Humanities Summer stipend award to pursue research in Spain during Summer 2011.
