Dr. Carmen Cañete Quesada

Associate Professor of Spanish

Dr. Cañete Quesada's research interests embrace issues related to exile, race, and (post)coloniality in the Hispanic Caribbean and Spain since the Spanish-American War (1895-1898). She is the author of El exilio español ante los programas de identidad cultural en el Caribe insular (1934-1954) (Madrid/Frankfurt: Vervuert/Iberoamericana, 2011), based on the experiences of three Spanish writers –Juan Ramón Jiménez, María Zambrano, and Eugenio F. Granell— who took up exile in the Hispanic Caribbean after the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). Her second book is devoted to the film scripts that the revolutionary Mexican writer Mauricio Magdaleno authored in conjunction with the Spanish Republican exile Max Aub during the 1950s. This manuscript in progress will be published by Fundación Max Aub, located in Valencia, Spain.

Dr. Cañete Quesada has received a U.S. Fulbright Scholar Award to teach and conduct research in the Dominican Republic during the 2013/2014 academic year. She is also the recipient of the 2013 Exceptional Faculty Award, provided by the Northern Campus Achievement Awards at FAU.
