The Jupiter Campus of
Florida Atlantic University is situated
on 135 acres of land donated to FAU by
the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur
Foundation. The Harriet L. Wilkes Honors
College is located on the MacArthur Campus,
an integral part of a 2,050 acre development
project called Abacoa. This new urban community
of Abacoa, which is within the city of
Jupiter, is dedicated to compact design
that minimizes human impact on the environment
while providing essential services and
an exemplary quality of life to residents
and visitors. Abacoa includes a 260-acre
Greenway nature preserve, which has a network
of lakes, tortoise habitats, and over five
miles of hiking and running trails. The
Abacoa Town Center and the Abacoa Plaza
shopping center, within walking distance
of the campus, offer a baseball stadium, and numerous shops and
restaurants - including a Publix grocery
store.
