International
Baccalaureate (IB) Policy
Students from International Baccalaureate
programs are encouraged to apply to the
Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College. The challenging
curriculum, the dedicated faculty, the
small size of the classes - all make the
Honors College an excellent choice for
IB students.
Honors College Curriculum
Much like the IB program, there are required
core courses in mathematics and natural
sciences; social and behavioral analysis;
culture, ideas, and values; literature
and the arts; foreign language; critical
inquiry and interdisciplinary learning;
and international and environmental studies.
There is a strong emphasis on writing,
including a required senior thesis, as
well as an experiential learning component
for all students (either study-abroad or
an internship).
IB Scholarships
Up to 7 $20,000 four-year scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen who are enrolled in IB diploma programs. For more information see the Honors College Financial Aid website.
Credit for IB course work and examinations
The Honors College recognizes the rigor
of the IB program and awards credit based
on scores achieved on IB exams. Students
will
be awarded up to thirty (30) semester credits.
In general, students will be awarded
credit for one term of the appropriate
course for each subject exam score of four
(4) and credit for two terms of the appropriate
course(s) for each subject exam score of
five (5) or higher. For details
about specific course credit, see the FAU online catalog (select current catalog, Gen Info, Academic Policies and Regulations, then scroll to 'Accelerated Mechanisms'/'IB Scores'). |
