Honors College professor receives Fulbright
 

Dr. Timothy J. Steigenga, associate professor of political science at the Wilkes Honors College of FAU received a Fulbright Visiting Scholar award to teach and conduct research in Guatemala during the spring semester of 2006. Dr. Steigenga is one of several Honors College faculty who have received a Fulbright award. Dr. James Wetterer, Professor of Biology, received a Fulbright in 2003-04 to conduct research in Trinidad; Dr. Keith Jakee, Assistant Professor of Economics, received a Fulbright fellowship to conduct research in Sweden; Dr. Mary Ann Gosser-Esquilin, Professor of Spanish and Comparative Literature, was awarded a Fulbright in 1998-9, allowing her to go to the University of West Indies in Jamaica; Dr. Chris Ely, Associate Professor of History, was awarded a Fulbright in 1994-5 to conduct research in the former Soviet Union; Dr. Rachel Corr, Assistant Professor of Anthropology, won Fulbrights in 1991-2 and 1997-8; and Dr. Eugene Belogay, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, won a Fulbright as a foreign scholar to study in the United States in 1991-2. In addition, the Wilkes Honors College hosted a Fulbright visiting scholar in Islamic Studies in 2003-04, the philosopher Dr. Mustafa Abu-Sway.

Dr. Steigenga works with the the non-profit Corn Maya organization, an advocacy organization for Jupiter's Guatemalan population, for which he received the TIAA-CREFF Service Award and the Dwight Allison Fellowship Award.
